Kocian\u2019s Jubilee: 65<\/b>th<\/b> Competition Year Starts<\/b><\/p>\n

The weather is cloudy and chilly, better bring your coats. The spectators were warmed by a swift performance of Mozart\u2019s <\/span>Divertimento<\/span><\/i> by a clarinet trio; Mat\u011bj Mor\u00e1vek, Lucie Mor\u00e1vkov\u00e1 and S\u00e1ra \u0160umov\u00e1 opened the 65<\/span>th<\/span> Kocianka with style! After some hard years, the organizers managed to restore the international competition to its former self. Now, they surely want to continue the success from last year. The conditions are promising: we have nearly 50 competitors. Apart from 20 Czech violinists, contestants from a\u00a0total of 14 foreign countries will join the race for the laureate title. The jury, consisting of Czech, German, Serbian and Israelian members, up<\/span>lifts the international spirit as well. \u201cI would like to remind you that it is children who are being judged here.\u00a0 Please, be mindful, so that the only tears we see here are the tears of joy,\u201d commented the city mayor Petr H\u00e1jek in his speech.<\/span><\/p>\n

The director of the competition, Lenka Lipensk\u00e1, joined in the welcoming of Kocian\u2019s followers: \u201cYou all are a family here, a family called Kocian Violin Competition. And you are in the right place because today marks the beginning of the 65<\/span>th<\/span> year of exceptionally talented children competition.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The jury of 7 members has seen some changes this year, however, its chairman remains \u2013 Pavel \u0160porcl. He recently celebrated his 50<\/span>th<\/span> birthday and after the Monday opening concert, it is now his duty to evaluate the competitors.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis year, we celebrate the 140<\/span>th<\/span> anniversary of the birth of Jaroslav Kocian and also the 65<\/span>th<\/span> anniversary of the competition. It is the oldest competition for children up to 16 years of age in the world! We have international participants and jury, and I\u00a0c<\/span><\/p>\n
